Gaëlle Pelachaud (Paris, France) is a visual artist and researcher.
She graduated from the National Superior School in Applied Arts and Artistic career of Olivier de Serres in Paris. In 1984 she received a scholarship for studies at Cooper Union in New York (engraving studio), and in 1986 graduated from the from the Nationale Superior in Decorative Arts in Paris (engraving). She wrote a thesis in Plastic Arts and Sciences of Art « Animated Books, the moving image » for the Pantheon-Sorbonne U.F.R.4 Paris in 2009. Her thesis got an honourable mention from the jury. In 2010, it was published under the title « Animated Books : From Paper and Digital » Harmattan edition. In 2016, as a complement to this first publication, Pyramyd editions published a new version for a larger audience, « Animated Books, Between Paper and Screen : History, Techniques, Creations, Perspectives. »
Since her thesis, she is regularly contacted to write articles on these subjects and participate in international symposiums.
She was also curator for the exhibition Museum of typography, Lyon and for the Library Marseille.
She is a artist, her practice is paints, drawings and artists books. She have participated in many artists’ residencies in Ireland, Iceland, Peru, Tanzania, Indonesia, India, Portugal, Sweden, Japan. Residencies represent encounters and sharing knowledge. Each of these residencies gave way to the creation of an artist’s book containing a text from an indigenous writer or a folk tale. The text appears in the original language, accompanied by a French and English translation.
Gaëlle Pelachaud creates works which seek to explore the true nature of things. She particularly interest by the movement, notably the movement of the birds.
« My works as an artist focused on the passage between the form, image, painting and drawing, the interaction and dimensions of the book. As researcher and artist, I am interested in motion. It appears in my work in different forms; The motion of the page ; the motion in the design; the motion in theme of voyages ».
Her works is entered in publics collections, National Library of France (Department of the reserve of rare books), Paris, Grolier Club, New York, Library Centre Georges Pompidou, Museum Hospitals of Paris, University Library Lausanne, Switzerland, Sheraton Hotel, Hong-Kong and multiple library in France.
She have exhibitions around the world, University Library Rudger’s New Jersey, USA, Nev Gallery, Ankara, Turquie, Houghton Gallery, New-York, Paris, France.
